I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but the fact that it’s spring and there was snow in the forecast last weekend was completely unacceptable.

In fact, I was so infuriated, I almost shouted at the local meteorologist on TV to go to the principal’s office when he shared the news.

I know I’m being a touch melodramatic. I also know that sounds insane, considering I’ve wasted many valuable column inches here over the years bemoaning the arrival of warm weather and the departure of my beloved fall and winter months.

However, there is a time and a place for everything, Mother Nature. I need you to get your act together.

To help Mother Nature out, in terms of understanding what seasonally appropriate weather is — and to inspire you for the upcoming sunny afternoons we’ll be enjoying a lot of soon — here are my favorite local spots that feature great beer and awesome patio or outdoor seating options.

1747 Pub at Reynolds Tavern Beer Garden

7 Church Circle, Annapolis

We all know I love 1747 Pub in downtown Annapolis. But their Beer Garden is something special.

With its historic charm, an outdoor bar, two expansive levels of tables, and lots of trees providing shade for sunburn-prone folks such as myself, Patrick and I have watched many an afternoon give way to an evening at the 1747 Pub Beer Garden.

Though 1747 Pub isn’t known for a never-ending line of taps, their six taps increase to 10 when the Beer Garden opens for the season. What they lack in overall quantity, however, they make up in purposeful, fun beer choices that cover big, bold Belgian beers, the latest in American craft and everything in between.

(Although they always lead with their love of local Maryland craft.)

The best part is that you can often pair your beers and gorgeous outdoor weather with great events.

For example, on April 22, the weekly 1747 Pub Beer Garden Outdoor Free Movie Series kicks off. (In recent years, it’s become a family- and date night-friendly community staple on Sunday nights.) In years past, features have included “Vertigo,” “The Sound of Music,” “A Philadelphia Story,” “South Pacific” and “Star Wars: A New Hope.”

Reservations are available for Reynolds Tavern, but not for the pub or seating in the Beer Garden.

The patio at Lures Bar and Grille

1397 Generals Highway, Crownsville

While some gripe about the parking on the weekends, let’s be honest here. Since its doors opened 10 years ago, Lures has cultivated a reputation of being a leader in the Annapolis area beer scene, and for good reason.

In addition to their killer menu, they have 27 amazing beers on tap at all times, along with a beer infuser, so they can create custom beer variations. They also have a thoughtfully curated cellar reserve menu of aged beers, on top of their standard bottles and cans list.

The cherry on this sundae? The back patio at Lures is like a little beer oasis in Crownsville.

With comfortable seating, romantic string lights overhead, and hop bines climbing up the fencing and across the lighting, it’s one of my favorite getaways during the warm spring and summer months with friends and for date nights.

Plus, they offer half-priced drafts between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, which makes it a no-brainer choice, since they have one of the best happy hours in town.

Accepts reservations by phone only at 410-923-1606.
